Again, there are very few gameplay details available about Spider-Man 2’s gameplay, but it’s bringing back the open-world version of New York that made the first game so successful. It’s also expanding to include some of the boroughs that were absent before, and the water around the city will play a larger role. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is set to be released exclusively on the PlayStation 5, and won’t be available on any other platforms at launch. The game’s official website mentions that the game has been “developed for the PlayStation 5 console,” and there is currently no PS4 version listed. While Insomniac have since released a Miles Morales spin-off and announced a standalone Wolverine game, a fully-fledged sequel was only a matter of time.

Standard open-world filler activities are here aplenty, and that’s one area where Spider-Man 2 hasn’t moved with the times or shown ambition at all. Collectibles, photo opportunities, and rather basic street crimes are still here and, despite having a few slightly more interesting quirks this time around, they only very occasionally excite. You’ll regularly be stopping the same getaways with the same few button presses (the button-mashing from previous games is mercifully largely gone) or stopping a break-in by battering the same few goons. The action of Spider-Man 2 takes place 9 months after the finale of Miles Morales — events from the heroes’ lives and their development are described in a digital comic released by Insomniac. Peter Parker is tired of “working” as the city’s protector and is drowning in the problems of adult life, such as his relationship with Mary Jane and paying off Aunt May’s debts.
Miles initially helps rid Peter of the symbiote while Harry seeks to get it back. The symbiote re-bonds to Harry, who is resentful that Peter initially kept the symbiote to himself due to its malevolent influence on him. Upon re-bonding with Harry, the symbiote transforms Harry into the monstrous Venom, who then kills Kraven the Hunter and creates symbiote nests around the city.
While Spider-Man 2’s PC release is a good sign, there are no Spider-Man 2 DLC plans in the works. Standard Edition includes all the latest updates for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 since the game launched on PS5.
